New Build Construction South Petherton

Project Brief

The Raven – Built in 2022

Axminster Design & Build was appointed to manage and construct key stages of this self-build home known as The Raven. Our team delivered the groundwork, including foundations, drainage, access roads, and the concrete oversite. We also handled the full assembly of the superstructure.

Once the external build was complete, the project was handed over to the client to complete the internal fit-out according to their own design and preferences.

Our Process

This home was built using SIPs, or Structural Insulated Panels. SIPs are an advanced method of construction that combines high-performance insulation with structural framing in a single panel. These panels are precision engineered and manufactured off site, then delivered and assembled on location. This process is often referred to as a flat-pack build, as the entire shell of the house is prepared in sections before being erected on site.

Using SIPs significantly reduces build time, improves thermal performance, and ensures exceptional airtightness. The Raven was designed with passive principles in mind, which means it was built to maintain comfortable indoor temperatures with minimal energy use. The structure integrates modern mechanical and electrical systems to maximise energy efficiency and occupant comfort.

The End Result

The Raven stands as a successful example of a modern, energy-efficient home built with a focus on sustainability and performance. The project was completed on schedule and to specification, leaving the client with a well-built, airtight shell ready for internal completion. The finished home reflects both the precision of off-site manufacturing and the craftsmanship of on-site assembly.
